Michelina's Lean Gourmet Five Cheese Lasagna

Lasagna The first thing I noticed about Michelina's Lean Gourmet frozen meals was the price. Each was only $1.00, and that's pretty hard to beat. I'll be honest, because this product was so cheap, I really wasn't expecting much - just praying that it would at least be edible. Michelina's comes in a carboard container, which seemed on the small side, so I knew there was no way I was going to be able to eat this for dinner. I popped it in the microwave and it was done in 4 minutes. When it came out, I was a bit unimpressed with the plain looking, sort of flat lasagna, but it tasted great! It tastes like home made lasagna, and that sauce may be tomato based, but it didn't have a strong tomato paste taste - which I hate. I was actually scraping the container, eating up the left over sauce.

Even the nutrition wasn't bad. There are 220 calories, 5 grams fat, 2 grams saturated fat but 760 mg of sodium, so be careful with this if you are on a low sodium diet. Obviously I didn't have high hopes for a product that only costs a dollar, but this turned out to be a great deal. In fact, I'm going to be stocking up on the lasagna in case the price goes up.

I have to agree with you; this is pretty darn tasty for the price. I was also quite impressed with the fettuchine alfredo version of the Lean Gourmet. You may want to check that out also.

Tanya, I haven't been to your site for awhile... very nice redesign! I like the colors and the top logo a lot.

I have been eying these Michelina meals for a bit but was hesitant to try them out. I think I bought the wrong kind last time, even though it was only a buck as well. Hm... maybe i gotta give them another chance. Have you had any luck with any of their other meals besides Lasagna?

LOVE LOVE LOVE this meal .. I know I seem a little fanatical, but when you're a college kid trying to stay away from those greasy pizzas and burgers in the cafeteria, a one dollar tasty box of lasagna makes your day. I find it delicious and would recommend it to anyone who loves rich sauce and oh-so-good cheese! By the way .. love your site. I'm always thrilled when I find another good diet review site!

Did anyone else notice that Michelina's has raised the calorie count on this meal from 220 to 310? I swear it happened almost overnight.

Anyway, I just discovered this site and I love it! It's nice that someone else can try this stuff out first, so I don't have to!

I thought this was good - but not as good as Amy's Garden Vegetable Lasagna. It's a little more expensive but I recommend trying it!

I have to throw my 2 cents in here, also... I've been eating a variety of the Lean Gourmet entrees since mid-January as a diet "tool." I'm following the Weight Watchers point system and LOVE that Michelina's has noted the "point" value of the entree on their Lean Gourmet packaging. These entrees are so quick to prepare and they taste delicious! I haven't really come across one I didn't like; they're all very good, (particularly the Garlic Shrimp w/angel hair pasta). :) So far, I've managed to lose 35 pounds. These Lean Gourmet meals, in no small way, helped me do that. Also, as you may know, "diet foods" can be very expensive, these are not. Heck, at $1.00 each -- that makes them taste EVEN BETTER! :)

I just started eating lean gourmet now that I am trying to diet. I almost gave up on buying other meals because of the price. I one day picked up the Three Cheese Chicken/Rice/Broccoli w/cheese that made me think twice about getting off the diet. At $.94 you really cannot beat the price. By the way I have lost 15lbs and lovin' it!!!!

I love Michelina's Lean Gourmet lasagna. For a while there (a few months ago), the lasagna had a $1.00 off coupon inside, good for when you buy 5 of these suckers. That's 75 cents each. That can hardly be beaten in my book. The only thing I started worrying about was pre-packaged food. I could just imagine this cardboard box going down an assembly line, then plop goes the lasagna, then splat goes the sauce. I was just wondering how sanitary the plant is - other than that, the lasagna tastes great. I love the pizza bites, too.

Bishop: trust me that inside "most" reputable food factories - you will find the most sanitary conditions you will find anywhere. Plus a lot of it is automated these days.

I definitely agree..I love the whole michelina's line. The price did get me at first though too :) This lasagna is good but my all time favorite of theirs (though it's not the lean gourmet) is the Authentico Cheese stuffed rigatoni. No idea why it's not considered lean, only 270 calories and 7 grams fat, but it is amazing! It has this slightly spicy tomato sauce that I just love, I always end up eating the sauce out of the box when I'm done!
