Aspartame: A Guide for Consuners Policy Makers and the Media
In case you missed it, earlier this year (around July 2008), The Grocery Manufacturers Association released a14-page policy paper containing "current and scientifically accurate information" titled: Aspartame: A Guide for Consuners Policy Makers and the Media. "Few ingredients have been subject to the extent of research that has been conducted on aspartame and the overwhelming majority of the scientific evidence confirms its safety" said Robert Brackett, GMA's chief science officer. The paper can be found at GMA Science Policy Paper Series website, along with other policy papers they have published on high fructose corn syrup, bisphenol A and perchlorate. The GMA paper comes to the same conclusion that many reviews of studies on aspartame have already come to - that the scientific evidence saying aspartame does not cause cancer is overwhelmingly more than the few flawed studies that suggest a link. But, I think skeptics will always remain so, and society needs skeptics to push and make sure that studies are done and matters are investigated thoroughly and properly.
